The agendas were quite light, which led to relatively short meetings.
The most notable items were Carol Birdsong's finale, the celebration of our Reward Schools, the board receiving updates on ongoing projects during their Work Session, and a preview of re-zoning for the 27-28 school year.
Carol
Carol Birdsong has long been the Executive Director of Communications for WCS and she is scheduled to retire on January 30, 2026. She received a lovely send-off at the voting meeting, with effusive praise being shared all around. She "passed the clicker" to her hand-picked successor, Cory Mason, whom she has been prepping for a long time.
Reward Schools
Many principals and vice principals were present for the meeting, receiving a rousing applause for their schools achieving the status of being a Reward School. This indicates that they have demonstrated high levels of performance and/or improvement in performance.
WCS broke our previous record with 35 of our 52 schools attaining this recognition. To hear the list of schools, start the livestream at the 46:50 mark.
Updates
There were many good updates on different projects during the Work Session.
First, the Entrepreneurship Center is pretty much completed. It is located near Franklin High, where the animal shelter used to be.
Next, there was an update on the next round of textbook adoption. This year, the board will be considering CTE and PE/Health Education curriculums. Next year will be social studies.
Finally, there was an update on the technology use guidance committee. The upshot is that they will be delivering a draft recommendation in February.
Re-zoning
For the 27-28 school year, there will likely be some rezoning to alleviate the increased demand on the Page and Nolensville communities. That process hasn't started yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.
Next meeting
The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 6:30pm. See you there!
